The 9-week Leaders-In-Training (L.I.T) program helps young adults develop their leadership skills through group learning sessions, mentorship opportunities, and the development and execution of a fundraising and awareness building final project. Funds generated from the final project will go towards subsidizing the cost of the LIT program for each participant.

Building on the success of last summer’s pilot hybrid (a combination of online and in-person) LIT Program, the updated and revised 2023 program will help young adult leaders-in-training move beyond being campers and learn new skills to help them develop and practice leadership in a variety of settings.
This program has three “phases” each of which builds towards a final project to raise funds and build awareness for Camp Awakening. Throughout the LIT Program and culminating in the final project, participants will have the opportunity to gain confidence; share their unique experiences and learn from others; develop and practice skills such as advocacy, conflict resolution, and project management; and make new friends.
Phase 1 begins at the end of May with two online meetings per week. During this time participants will get to know each other, discover what it means to be a leader, and begin the planning stages of their final project!
Phase 2 is the in-person portion of the program occurring at Cedar Ridge Camp near Bancroft from Sunday, June 25th to Saturday, July 1st. While at camp LITs will be able to enjoy spending time in nature and participate in traditional camp activities both on land and in the water. Along with this, the group will participate in a variety of leadership sessions run by Camp Awakening and continue working on their final project.
Phase 3 is the completion and execution of the final project and earning of the certification of completion of Camp Awakening’s Leaders-In-Training (LIT) program. Along with this, LITs will have gained a tool kit of both hard and soft skills that can be included on resumes and built on in future volunteer and work experiences.
The dates for 2023:
Leaders-In-Training Monday, May 29 – Friday, July 28, 2023 18-24 years All Gender
In-Person @ Cedar Ridge Sunday, June 25 – Saturday, July 1, 2023
With the beginning of the LIT Program still several months away, not all of our plans can be 100% confirmed right now. As with last summer, we will be working with our host camps, medical advisors, and the Ontario Camps Association, as well as following mandates and guidelines provided to us by The Ministry of Health and regional Public Health units.
While we are still working to finalize COVID policies we expect some of our plans may include, but are not limited to, vaccination mandates as well as masking and testing as necessary. We will update this page to keep you informed of the health regulations we are putting in place.
Applications for returning LITs will open November 1, 2022. New LITs may begin applying on November 15, 2022.
Please be advised that applying to be an LIT does not guarantee acceptance or registration in any Camp Awakening program. If your LIT is new to Camp Awakening the first step of the application process is to contact the camp office to set up an intake interview.
Leader-In-Training (LIT) fees for 2023 are $750. This is a reduced fee to account for the revenue generation from the final project.
Camp Awakening’s LIT fees are all-inclusive. There are no hidden or additional charges for lodging, meals, staff support, activities or programming (both online and in-person).
Unfortunately, there are limited funding options available to campers and participants over the age of 18.
Camp Awakening will support you in your efforts to secure any funding you find. In addition to this, we can work with you to create a payment/installment plan or explore other avenues of payment such as volunteer service.
If you require financial support, please contact the camp office for more information.
