Your camper’s health, safety and well-being is our number one priority.
Camp Awakening works with a volunteer Medical Advisor and a volunteer Paediatric Nurse Practitioner in Toronto that are consulted before camp begins and throughout the summer. We ask that you provide Camp Awakening with as much detail as possible regarding your camper’s health on an ongoing basis.
All camper families will receive the Camp Awakening Handbook in the spring outlining guidelines and policies for sun safety, proper hydration, good hygiene practices, head lice, mosquito and tick protection, etc.
At each Host Camp (Oconto and Kilcoo), there will be a minimum of one Nurse Practitioner on site. There will be no charge for routine services, but prescriptions, specialized treatments, or visits to specialists will be charged to parents/guardians.
Please be aware that these facilities are shared with the entire camp community and infirmary staff are mostly dealing with common camp ailments (cuts, bruises, bug bites, etc.). These medical professionals are NOT paediatric or physical disability specialists and may not have knowledge specific to your camper’s needs. This is yet another reason why we ask that you provide Camp Awakening with as much detail as possible regarding your camper’s health on an ongoing basis.
Please also be advised that while Camp Awakening program staff have First Aid & CPR training, they are not medical or health professionals.
All information regarding medication, dosage and administration times must be documented on all camper health forms.
All medication should be sent to camp in blister packs or compliance packaging.
