Tuesday, August 3, 2021 (4 hours)
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development
The Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is a 4-hour training that equips front-line leaders (anyone working with children aged 4 to 12 – i.e. camp counsellor, coaches, after school staff, swim instructors) with the tools to immediately enhance the quality of the programs they are leading. It provides essential training in the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development so front-line leaders understand what they need to do to ensure each child’s social, emotional and cognitive needs are met.

Wednesday, August 4 – Thursday, August 5, 2021 (6 hours)
Food Handler Certificate
This food safety certification course is recommended for anyone that serves food to others, especially those who serve food to the public. This course satisfies legislated food handler training requirements across Canada and is ideal for staff in restaurants, day cares, camps, long-term care homes, special events, etc.

Friday, August 6, 2021 (1.5 hours)
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (also known as WHMIS). 
WHMIS stands for the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. It is a comprehensive system for providing health and safety information on hazardous products intended for use, handling, or storage in Canadian workplaces.

Camp Awakening will book the instructor(s), distribute the course materials and facilitate online instruction.  Campers are responsible for taking notes, asking questions and writing the final exam.

Please note: enrolling in one of the Cert Week courses does not guarantee that any specific certification will be obtained – final results are up to the individual camper!

For summer 2021, this virtual certification program is open to anyone 14-24 years of age with a physical disability – plus their friends and siblings in the same age range.

We are simply asking you to “contribute-what-you-can”. 

Camp Awakening is a small charity and we have experienced significant financial loss due to the pandemic and not being able to run our traditional in-person camp programs since summer 2019.  Any amount, small or big, to help offset the cost of the instructors and course materials is so appreciated.
